In its time, it was path-breaking, especially since Adams was about 12 and a bit (OK, 25!) when he wrote the first volume. But now, for genuinely witty and reasonably literate (read: dumbed-down referential humour that even I can get!), read Terry Practhett's Discworld novels. J.A.P. But still - I'm *incredibly* pissed off at the fact that they chose to be politically correct and chose an Black guy for the role of Ford Prefect. That is _so_ wrong - I mean, you have this image of a lousy depressed mate from Blighty of Ford, and they screw it ALL up by putting some unheard of dude who talks in an accent that is HARDLY British. As a matter of fact, the one reason the trailer wasn't too bad was because the voice-over was funny - otherwise, it would have sucked.
